The School of Policy Studies’ English Language Program, or SPS-ELP, is a streamed, two-year, English-only program for approximately 1,200 freshman and sophomore students, delivering specifically-tailored content to develop the language skills necessary for our students to compete in a globalized marketplace. The courses of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking are fully integrated from semester to semester and across concurrent courses to provide students with a strong foundation as they move through their undergraduate curriculum. Each course is built around a clear set of goals and objectives, with uniform materials, activities, homework, assignments, and grading for all students within the course.

Goals & Objectives

The coordinated ELP context offers students courses that are based on clear goals and objectives (G&Os). The G&Os specify skill- and level-appropriate learning targets for students to achieve in each course at each level. ALEs are responsible for developing and updating courses to help students attain the stated learning objectives, ensuring that they can be prepared for the next level in the ELP.
